Health Promotion

Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health.”, which is defined in Ottawa Charter in 1986 by The World Health Organization.  This emphasizes that health promotion is a process that empowers people to take charge of their own health, and empowerment means having the power to control one’s own destiny and influence others. Empowerment is the ability for people to take control of their situation or change their environment, which depends on access to information, decision-making skills, resources, and networks.

To enhance the public’s attitude towards maintaining and promoting their own health and to uphold the belief that “health is a right and prevention is a responsibility,” National Cheng Kung University Hospital has been the health promotion coordinating center since 2013. We integrate the hospital’s various health promotion achievements to help employees and the public put healthy behaviors into practice in their daily lives, with the goal of achieving “health as a lifestyle and a healthy lifestyle.”

  • In 2013, we joined the WHO Healthy Hospitals network as a member of the Taiwan Society of Health Promoting Hospitals & Taiwan Network of Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services, aiming to enhance the culture and effectiveness of health promotion in medical institutions, promote related academic research and education, strengthen international exchange, and improve the health of patients, medical staff, families, and the community.
  • In 2017, based on the Health Promoting Hospital Accreditation, we integrated the spirit of Age-Friendly Healthcare Institution, Tobacco-Free Hospital, and Low-Carbon Hospital, and successfully obtained the “Health Hospital Certification” from the National Health Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
